Developing confident school leaders
Jocelyne sees the transformative impact of professional development programs on young school leaders in Rwanda. One young female school leader, despite her teaching experience, initially struggled with confidence in managing more experienced teachers. The CPD program helped her strengthen people management skills, conduct lesson observations, and provide constructive feedback. It also introduced learning-through-play strategies and emphasized teacher well-being. Leadership challenges vary by school type: private school leaders manage recruitment, while public school leaders focus on people management. Feedback from participants reinforces the program’s effectiveness, aligning with international research on school leadership.

“It’s also one of the key things that we see that a teacher helps making sure that we feel welcomed within the school and then they are well prepared and well supported to be able to deliver their lessons.”
