Olasunkanmi’s innovative approach to teaching English emphasises effective communication. He views his students as future global champions and believes language is key to their success. To engage them, Ola incorporates entertainment into his lessons, creating songs, raps, and games around concepts. He also uses popular local cultural elements, like the “shaku shaku” dance, to make learning relatable and fun. Ola finds fulfilment in helping students break out of their shells and is proud of the high pass rates they achieve, which he considers his greatest reward as a teacher.

“For me as a teacher, what is rewarding has always been my results. My students can give me up to 90% pass rate… nothing makes me happier than that… I feel fulfilled seeing that.”

Olasunkanmi Opeifa’s passion for teaching led him to volunteer as a teacher while in university. Later he served as the only English teacher in a remote village school in Nigeria. Despite the challenges of teaching in a low-income area with large class sizes, Olasunkanmi implemented innovative teaching methods and published a book to help his students. His efforts led to this school being able to build new classrooms and a library to accommodate more students. Olasunkanmi was recognised as a finalist for the 2020 Global Teacher Prize.
