The library at Susan’s international primary school in Hong Kong is a central, beloved space where all 900 students visit every week. She takes a hands-on approach, personally reviewing and selecting picture books to ensure they align with students’ interests and educational needs. During a Zoom discussion of books shortlisted for the Golden Dragon Book Award, she was moved by a student’s enthusiasm for Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which sparked further research and excitement. Susan finds these moments fulfilling, as they demonstrate how literature can ignite curiosity and support emotional development in children.
