Katy is the Head of Education in Emergencies at Teach For All. She believes that the 234 million children affected by crisis need more than imported solutions. She prioritises leadership development over technical fixes, and investing in local people and organizations. Katy outlines five leadership qualities: reflective pause, the courage to challenge the status quo, distributed leadership, human-centered approaches, and systems thinking. She has seen teachers innovating with limited resources, using creativity, simple technology, and community support. Katy calls for a shift in the humanitarian system, centered on local leadership, authentic co-creation, and a mindset that values community strengths.
