What are the different factors that impact children’s learning, and how can understanding them help all children reach their potential?

Childhood is full of variability – children are different on different days, they are different from their peers, and they grow up in different environments. But education often provides one-size-fits-all instruction aimed at the average student. Understanding and embracing learning variability could make education more effective for more students.

In this series, researchers from around the world explore what learning variability means to them, and why understanding the different ways children vary is so important. Each article features the latest scientific thinking from one of the research sites of a global network that is improving our understanding of variability through large scale coordinated data collection. The network is called LEVANTE – the Learning Variability Network Exchange. LEVANTE is an initiative of the Jacobs Foundation.
