Magdalena is based in The Hague, where she researches teacher wellbeing in collaboration with the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford. Her work highlights the systemic factors influencing teacher wellbeing, as it is not just a personal issue but deeply connected to school leadership, policies, and workload. Magdalena explores how teacher wellbeing impacts both student wellbeing and academic outcomes, advocating for mentorship, systemic support, and peer-based interventions as effective solutions.

Magdalena Balica

Magdalena Balica (PhD) is a Senior Policy Research Manager at the International Baccalaureate Organisation, bringing a wealth of experience in psychology and educational sciences. With a background in producing, testing, and interpreting research tools, she has collaborated with organisations like the Ministry of Education in Romania, UNICEF, and the World Bank. Magdalena’s passion for education is evident through her work in addressing issues such as early school leaving, lifelong learning, and education for Roma students. In addition to her professional endeavours, she founded the Online Learning Centre of the Institute of Educational Sciences and dedicated over a decade to mentoring students at the Alternative University in Bucharest.
