Armando Ali

As the CEO of the People’s Action for Learning Network, Armando aims to improve learning outcomes for children in the Global South. The network began with citizens assessing children’s reading and math abilities at the household level. Better learning can inspire children to value education and return to school. Armando believes that foundational skills like reading and basic math open the world to children and provide opportunities for them to thrive. Armando sees an urgent need for innovative solutions and accountability among parents, teachers, and communities. Citizen-led assessments in the Global South have provided valuable data for understanding learning outcomes and have helped parents realise that simply attending school does not guarantee learning.

“Improving learning is also a way to make children understand the value of education and by doing so, make them get interested in going back to school.”
