Empowering girls to drive community change
Sonia coordinates a boarding school that is situated in a forest reserve in Paraguay. It provides mainly girls from indigenous communities with advanced education in environmental sciences and practical skills, from farming to robotics. The Mbaracayú school operates on a self-sustaining model, using business units to cover costs. Students rotate through various learning areas, including agroecology and eco-tourism, to gain hands-on experience. For Sonia, an important and emotional time is the girl’s graduation as the impact is evident in graduates who become community leaders and role models. This school equips girls with education and empowers them to drive change in their communities.

“The initial idea of the school was exactly to try to give girls access to quality education, an education that would allow them to become leaders of their communities.”
