Aline Frederico

Aline facilitated reading experiences with children and parents in public libraries using interactive story apps. These digital books allow children to engage actively with the narrative, such as making choices for characters or interacting with the story through gestures. Aline describes a case where a child chose to defy the app’s prompts and not turn the page, demonstrating her agency and understanding of the interactive story’s logic. This shows how such apps can empower children to negotiate their agency within a digital storytelling context, offering valuable opportunities for engagement and learning through play and technology.

Listen to Aline

“When we think about agency, it is not that we are free to do whatever we want or that the child can do whatever she wants… we are always dealing with the context around us.”
