Jose Luis teaches high school students from diverse backgrounds, including Americans and first-generation immigrants at an international school in Singapore. They are strongly motivated to learn but can be preoccupied with grades, which sometimes overshadows the true goal of language acquisition. Jose Luis integrates his passion for poetry into his teaching, sharing poems he loves to inspire his students. A memorable moment for him was when a former student recited a poem he had taught years earlier. Building meaningful connections with students through language and helping them experience the essence of Spanish is Jose Luis’ primary focus.

“What I try to teach to them is the spirit of the language… how it feels to think in Spanish, how it feels to write in Spanish.”
